Washington Business Journal breaks the news that the previously unidentified Grocery store hub for the Steuart Development on the north side of the 300 block of H Street will be a Giant.
The story indicates that the negotiations are in their final phase. Councilmember Tommy Wells recently helped enact a tax break to help provide adequate parking for the facility to ensure that a grocery store would be the main tenant at this new retail-residential mixed use development.

Not my first choice grocery store, but I'm glad to see the project moving along and I look forward to seeing them break ground soon.
ReplyDeleteWell, its not Whole Foods, but we'll take it! We need the west end of H to be developed ASAP!!!
ReplyDeleteGiant has a pretty good Organic line and many of them are nice stores. It's worth keeping in mind that this one will have 212 residential units above it. Think the Harris Teeter at Potomac Yards or the Safeway at City Vista, not the Safeways at 14th SE or at Hechinger Mall.
ReplyDeleteBye bye Murrays... That site would be perfect for a TJs in a couple years!
ReplyDeleteI think this apt and anchor store will only help push the further development of this side of H Street.
ReplyDeleteThis is terrific for the neighborhood and for Giant. Usually the Giants in the suburbs (McLean, Fairfax County, Ashburn) are often superior to the Safeways. Giant is a great store and I am sure will cater to the needs of the neighborhood so will offer organic foods and superior quality fruits and vegetables (unlike the Brentwood location).
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know when construction is slated to begin?
Agreed. I'd have been more excited if it was a store that would draw folks from other parts of DC, like a Whole Foods or Trader Joes, but it will be great to have a grocery here and to see that development built. Hopefully this coming will help spur other excting stuff coming soon thereafter.
