CHEESESTEAKS (Taylor Charles Steak & Ice) coming to 1320 H St next week (via Taylor Gourmet)

Taylor Charles Steak & Ice -- Authentic Philadelphia Cheesesteaks via the Taylor Gourmet team -- is opening next Wednesday, December 12, at 1320 H Street.

The space is designed to give the feeling of "bringing the streets inside."  In Philadelphia, most of the legendary Cheesesteak shops are walk-up shops, outside. Steak & Ice brings the walk-up, sidewalk feel inside with its design.  The floors resemble asphalt with manhole covers installed. There are street lights, large picnic tables and original street art throughout.

They'll be open daily for lunch starting at 11 am, closing weeknights at 9 pm, and staying open late til 3:30am Fridays & Saturdays.  Carryout is available with local delivery coming soon.

In addition to cheesesteaks how you like them, they'll have a vegetarian option, kid's menu, 1/2 lb hot dogs, italian water ice, custard, ice cream sandwiches, and more.  The mouthwatering menu follows after the jump

Release the Blowdry Bar coming to 1017 H Street this weekend

Release The Blowdry Bar is coming to 1017 H Street, brining a new blow dry bar salon to the former home of Hair Rage. Release the Blow Dry Bar is part of a new wave in hair salon services that offers blow dry services rather than full service hair cuts. Release's official grand opening for the public is Saturday, December 8, 8 am - 4pm.

What exactly is a Blowdry bar? Simply put, it’s a specialized salon that solely focuses on washing and styling hair (no cuts and no color... just styling). This type of salon ensures quick and convenient service at an affordable cost.

Release promises to encompass all the factors a client would want from a hair salon such as: a beautiful ambiance, quality service, complimentary wine, yummy finger food, a talented team, and of course… reasonable prices. Release will go a step further by offering frequent events to engage clients through out the week like our daily Rendezvous Happy Hour from 4 pm - 6 pm and our Ladies Night "Remix Fridays" from 4pm - 8pm!

1017 H Street is one of two buildings on the 1000 block of H Street owned by H Street Main Street Executive Director Anwar Saleem. Saleem had this to say about his exciting new tenant:

In our retail focus group sessions, a salon cutting across demographic and cultural lines was highly suggested. It is a service that I've wanted to offer for years. The surveys provided me with enough additional information to partner with a fe highly skilled young ladies to get it done. I believe it will be an exciting addition to H Street.

Pop up shopping at Toki Underground, Sunday, Dec. 9, noon - 5 pm

Toki Underground chef-owner Erik Bruner-Yang is hosting a slew of fellow University of Mary Washington grads and entrepreneurs at a one-day only POP-UP SHOP on Sunday, December 9th.

FORAGE owners Megan Parry and Alicia Austin will sell a mix of vintage and current label clothing as well as handmade jewelry and accessories. er Phillip Lim mini skirt and a 70s magenta deep v silk jumpsuit that are TDF). Megan and Alicia will also be selling their own handmade friendship bracelets, ponytail holders and magnets (all perfect stocking stuffers that are super easy on the wallet).

Local artist J.Coleman will be selling original prints made specifically for the pop-up. Sara Gossett will have handmade greeting cards on hand and Marie Snyder of Luna Rosa jewelry will have handmade fabric earrings and resin rings.

There will be a bartender on-hand slinging drinks, though unfortunately there won't be any food service; you'll have to get your sustenance from sake, sequins and cashmere.
