Mythology - modern Chophouse coming to 1005 H Street next year

Mythology is the latest new restaurant to make plans to open on H Street next year at 1005 H Street NE.  It comes via Atlas Room General Manager Mark Medley (formerly co-owner & GM at Mark & Orlando's) and owner Todd Luongo will offer a modern Chophouse menu with quality steaks, fish, and other fresh, simply prepared proteins.  Medley explains his concept as "not your father's steakhouse."  Mythology will offer a quality wine program with over 100 bottles and a dozen rotating craft beers on draught.

Medley has been an integral part of the opening team a couple doors down at the Atlas Room (1015 H St) and is excited to open another spot on H Street after over 30 years in the DC restaurant business including past stints at Mark & Orlando's, Vidalia, Pesce, Masa 14, and the Atlas Room.  Mytholody will use both floors of the attractive building at 1005 H Street, which is owned by H Street Main Street Executive Director Anwar Saleem.  The building has been vacant since the Will Power gym closed there a few years ago, but is in good condition.

The Mythology name stems from a desire to create an atmosphere where one can indulge in finer food and drink without the regimented requirements of many finer restaurants.  Mythology recognizes the growing number of young families w/ children in the neighborhood & is firmly committed to being "family friendly."  It will also offer Jazz brunch on Saturday and Sunday and has arranged for valet parking.

Medley will remain present at the Atlas Room through this fall before transitioning full time to his new gig.  Look for Mythology to open in spring 2013.

Le Grenier will open its doors this weekend, brining a french bistro from the folks behind Le Chat Noir in Friendship Heights to 502 H Street.  The building has been nicely renovated and the restaurant should fill a nice gap in H Street's ever broadening culinary offerings.

906-08 H Street purchased by Westmill Capital / Popularise / Fundrise (Ben & Dan Miller team) for $1.375 Million

The Westmill Capital Team, which purchased the Autozone lot and more recently purchased 1351 H Street with plans to bring Maketto (a Toki Underground / Durkyl / Vigilate Coffee colaboration) has purchased the double wide building at 906-908 H Street for $1.375 million.

The team isn't saying much about the plans for the new building, but it seems likely that the building will soon be offered for community conceptual input (via Popularise) and for community investment (via Fundrise).  In the meantime, company principal Ben Miller had this to say about the group's latest high profile H Street acquisition:

"We love H Street because of its history and creative energy. Because of this, we look at investing in buildings like 908 H Street to be key to our strategy of focusing on neighborhood developments."
This is one of our favorite unused buildings on H Street and its aquisition by a well-funded group who has demonstrated commitment to working with the community and existing H Street business owners to bring new and exciting offerings to H Street is an excellent development.
