The Argonaut hasn't quite been itself since it was victim to a big fire last year. They've remained partially open during renovations, but have had to operate without their kitchen and grounds floor space in the interim. Now that it's a bit cold to enjoy their lovely patio, it's been a quiet stretch for them. Fortunately, they have been up to great things and are ready to reopen in full on Saturday, January 15. Here's what to expect:
What's the same:
Full kitchen with great signature items like fish tacos, sweet potato fries, burger, etc
Diverse, unpretentious wine list
Great nightly specials including taco night and neighborhood night
Extensive beer list with many American microbrews
Warm decor and neighborhood feel, many chaming aspects remain unchanged
Great patio
One of H Street's very best brunches
What's new and improved:
New full-time chef
Brand new kitchen equipment, including a steamer for dumplings, seafood and more, Twelve draught taps available at both upstairs and downstairs bars -- the taps themsleves are beautiful antiques
Large flat screens have replaced old televisions
Indoor/outdoor bar and increased patio space for outdoor eating, drinking, and game playing
Bar moves to south side of old main dining room and is built from salvaged floor boards from old room into the form of a sea-faring vessel
Displaying two neighborhood honors (a 2010 Hilly Award for "Best Bar/Tavern" and a 2010 "Bricky Award" from Councilmember Tommy Wells for making the neighborhood more "livable and walkable")
The move to twelve beers on draught with taps on both levels whereas previously limited to four taps downstairs is a big one and they plan to take full advantage of it to offer a really fantastic draught list. They will have four seasonal, four rotating, and four playtime draughts, as below.

Its great that the Argo will back soon. Can't wait to check it out. 3 cheers for more great beers on tap and more space.
ReplyDeleteHow about some more veggie options? The food is great but for us vegetarians we run out of new things to try by the second visit.
And I hope the new kitchen will help improve the service. There was more than once where we had over an hour wait for our food.
The Argonaut's new menu will have more vegetarian options, including a veggie (tempeh) taco option and they've made changes with the kitchen and otherwise to help ensure good consistent service as well.
ReplyDeleteWill they be carrying big bottle beers? Dogfish Head My Antonia is my favorite beer right now (hint hint).
