Biergarten Haus will NOT open this weekend.

Biergarten Haus was planning to open this Friday, May 14, but will be unable to do so after a series of DCRA-related delays. A message from Biergarten Haus management explaining their plans to get everything right before they open follows.

To All Our Future Biergarten Haus Customers

Thank you to everyone for all the support and wonderful feedback in anticipation of our Grand Opening!!!

We had high hopes of tapping our first keg this coming weekend, however have decided to postpone in order to perfect D.C's first, long awaited, German Style Beer Garden.

To ensure that we provide the best top notch service and quality environment we will be taking just a bit more time before opening to the public. But, we assure you we will be ready to serve in the coming weeks.

We can hardly wait to meet all our future customers and look forward to serving you in the years to come.

Please continue to check the website for updates and information.

We will also be sending everyone on our email list a special gift soon !

Thank you again

Biergarten Haus Management

  1. Bummer. Had to figure DC would get in the way of this.

  2. Do you know for a fact that this is a DCRA issue? Or are you jumping to a conclusion? Nothing in their statement indicates that this is a inspection problem.

  3. There's no way this is completely DCRA's fault. In fact, I'd be surprised if DCRA were in any way responsible for the continual delays in opening. BGH was supposed to open last FALL, remember? Then winter, then, according to their Facebook page, March, then April, then 2 weeks ago, then this weekend, . . . But as of 2 weeks ago, they hadn't even completed their indoor construction (and it sounds like they're still not where they need to be). Look, I want this place to succeed. Unlike a lot of H Street establishments, it's geared towards my demographic. But BGH's inability to open is a big red flag in terms of its long-term viability.

May seem that way to you but if you've ever done any kind of renovation (let alone open a business) you'd simply shake your head in recognition. Every deadline you set seems to get blown out of the water...

Remember how many missed opening days H St Country Club and Sticky Rice had? And both those establishments seem to be thriving...

  5. They definitely aren't waiting for regulatory stuff -- I peeked in their window this weekend and there is construction debris and newspaper everywhere. But they will be great when they finally open! Go Biergartenhaus!
