The streetscape construction is substantially complete, but the H Street progress continues.
Steuart Development will hold their official groundbreaking at 360 H Street (the north side of the 300 block of H St) where a mixed use building with over 200 residential units are planned above a Giant grocery store on Tuesday morning. The groundbreaking is not open to the public, but Mayor Gray, Councilmember Tommy Wells, Guy Steuart & Giant's Shane Sampson are expected to participate. Some construction equipment is already on site and preliminary work is beginning now.
The development is the first of several large buildings expected to come to H Street in coming years with other projects planned and approaved for the 200 block (south side), 600 block (south side), 800-900 blocks (south side), and 1100 block (south side). Flats at Atlas broke ground just east of H Street last fall. Progress is ongoing at sites just off of H Street, including the redevelopment of the building at 315 G St and for a new building at 4th & I as well. We'll have more details on plans for a new building at the corner of 14th & Maryland soon.

600 block project is north side? The link is to the south side.
ReplyDeleteTypo corrected. Thanks, 10:59.
ReplyDeletewhat is planned at the 1100 block?
ReplyDeleteA good time to remember that this site almost became a massive BP truck stop (back around 2000, I think?). Thanks to the neighbors who opposed it. Please consider that before complaining that it's not a Whole Foods.
ReplyDeleteThere's a mixed use building planned for a vacant lot on the south side in the middle of 1100 block at 1113-1117 H St. The property was city-owned and is being surplussed for development.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy about and supportive of all this development, but would really like to start a discussion about how we might retain some street parking for residents. It is increasingly difficult to park within a 2 block radius of my house, and the cars on the street are mostly from VA and MD. Glad they're spending their money here, but...
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see something similar to what 8th St SE has-- one side of the street reserved for residential parking at all times-- rather than the current 2 hour limit (which only applies on weekdays during business hours anyway). Anyone know how we get this implemented?
@2:04, you can petition to have your block's parking restrictions altered as you note some blocks on the other side of the Hill and a few over here have already done. Contact your ANC and/or DDOT to obtain the necessary petition. This is issue is also the subject of the Monday 7 pm ANC 6A Transportation Committee meeting at 900 G St NE. It sounds like you might want to attend. http://www.anc6a.org/agendas/TA0711.pdf
ReplyDeleteReally looking to hearing more details regarding plans to develop the corner of 14th and Maryland.
