LUMEN8 Anacostia kicks off today

Lumen8 Anacostia is today.  Jeremy Flick who works at CONNERSMITH is showing work at the Anacostia Arts Center.

ARCH Development Corporation is proud to bring LUMEN8 back to Historic Anacostia for a second year beginning with a kickoff festival June 22. Seven weeks of themed programming will follow, culminating with a finale on August 10.
Saturday June 22 Kickoff Festival
 
The June 22 kickoff festival runs from 1 p.m. until midnight at two separate locations.

Anacostia Arts Center, Honfleur Gallery & The Gallery at Vivid Solutions
1pm to 6pm at 1241 and 1231 Good Hope Road SE

Daytime programming at the new Anacostia Arts Center includes a select group of artists pop-ups, children’s visual arts programming produced by Albus Cavus, a Gallery Operator Contest and the first day of the Public Studio Project. A series of live music and street performances will take place in the center. Additionally, two pop-up restaurants—Poulet et Gaufres (Chicken and Waffles) and DC DOSA (Indian food)—and a cash bar will provide food and drink options. Next door at Honfleur and the Gallery at Vivid Solutions, there will be live poster screen printing with free event posters for attendees, music performances, a bar, and S’mores Amores (a pop-up s’mores restaurant). Honfleur Gallery’s exhibit Figures in Jazz by John K. Lawson
and The Gallery at Vivid Solutions’s exhibit Unsung Jazz will be on view during the day’s festivities. Food trucks will offer food and drink options along Good Hope RD SE.
 
The Music Box
6pm to midnight at 1235 Shannon Place SE

In the evening, the party moves to the Music Box at 2235 Shannon Place SE where a
spectacular light display transforms the former Metropolitan Police Department evidence warehouse into the Music Box. The evening’s music lineup is as follows:

The Funk Ark


The warehouse space will host live wet plate and large format portrait sessions by
STRATA photo collective. A Busboys & Poets pop-up restaurant will serve food. A cash bar will offer alcohol and non-alcoholic drink options.
Summer-long LUMEN8 Programming
 
LUMEN8ANACOSTIA continues through August 10 with weekly themed programming.
(Note: There will be no programming the week of July 4.)

The weeks of themed programming from June 24 through August 10 will include a wide variety of events including development workshops for creative professionals, cooking demonstrations, film screenings, a fashion show, an app-building workshop, a large-scale public art project and more.
