PSA: Parking meters in effect on H Street

Free parking on H Street is coming to an end.  The good news is the meters allow 3.5 hours of parking starting at 6:30 and are only $.75 per hour, so if you want a space from 6:30 until the end of a long night, it'll only cost $3.  You can pay with coins, credit card, or by phone.  The full announcement from construction contractor AMEC's terrific community relations specialist Margaret Gentry follows.

The District Department of Transportation is activating the new solar-powered multispace parking meters on both sides of H Street N.E. from 3rd Street to the mid-1400 block. The meters from 9th Street to the mid-1400 block were activated yesterday (August 30), and those from 3rd to 9th will be activated later this week or next week.

Motorists who fail to display a meter-issued receipt on their dashboards will be subject to parking tickets and fines.

As shown on the face of each meter:

Ø A 2-hour parking limit applies between 7:00 am and 6:30 pm Monday through Saturday.

Ø The limit is extended to 3 ½ hours between 6:30 pm and 10:00 pm Monday through Saturday.

Ø The parking meter fee is 75 cents per hour.

Ø There are no time limits and no parking meter fees for parking between 10:00 pm and 7:00 am and all day and evening on Sundays.

Ø Parking meter fees may be paid by Visa and MasterCard credit and debit cards and by coins. Nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollar coins may be used. Paper currency is not accepted. The “Pay by Phone” system may also be used. For more “Pay by Phone” information, go to http://ddot.dc.gov/DC/DDOT/Services/Parking+Services/View+All/Pay+by+Phone.

The presence of multispace meters is indicated by the iconic signs posted nearby.
