This Weekend on H Street

Souk should have their bar up and running tonight. Hopefully the back dining room will be open as well. Liberty Tree now has the promised whole-bellied clams. These are sweet, delicious clams that make for the best fried clams.

The FreshFarm farmers' market reopens tomorrow. Look for Casey Patten of Taylor as the featured Chef at the Market around midmorning. The market will also feature new additions Red Apron Butchery, Dolcezza Gelato, and H Street's own Dangerously Delicious Pie. Metro Mutts is going to participate tomorrow as well. The market runs from 9-12 noon. There are some other events tomorrow night as part of the First Saturdays series that H Street Main Street is launching.

After the farmers' market, you can stop by Ethiopic, which opens at noon for lunch and congratulate Sam and Meseret and the birth of their first child, Noah. Their signature lamb tibs might be the tastiest thing you can get anywhere on H Street. While you are over that way, drop by Capitol Fine Wine and Spirits. They've gotten in almost all of the hard to find beers that folks have requested since openings, including four types of Bells and a Great Lakes beer. They have a really impressive beer selection now, including a few types of Ethiopian beers and a solid offering of inexpensive wines.

Just off H Street, Jimmy Valentines will be cooking up 90 lbs of bacon starting at 3 pm.

Toyland will be mixing up Mint Juleps in honor of Derby Day. They open at 5 and the race is at 6.

Saturday night, City Gallery has an opening reception for their latest exhibit starting at 6 pm.

EcoSymposiums on Sustainability in DC

On Saturday, May 1, Capitol Business Solutions LLC will hosting an EcoSymposium on Sustainability in DC at the Sherwood Recreation Center (640 10th Street, NE). The symposium runs from 10 am until 3 pm (lunch included). The program will consist of several panel speakers, including Weatherize DC, Groundwork DC, DreamingOutLoud, Sol Systems Company, and a community forum to deliver information to constituents and businesses on relevant topics in the theme of "Green Ward, Green Life" and will be visited by Councilmember Tommy Wells. Local businesses and training resources will be operating booths to distribute information and answer questions of attendees.

Topics of discussion include:

·Informing local residents of available grants and programs,
·Discussing the economic opportunities for the working class through new green jobs, and
·Encouraging mobility and changes for businesses through new cost-effective sustainable practices.

1108 H Street renovated and on the market

1108 H Street has been vacant in recent years, but is housed between Little Miss Whiskey's Golden Dollar (1104 H St) and the coming Asian restaurant in the historic Hubert Newsom Building (1110 H St) just down the block from the Credit Union, and Taylor Gourmet (1116 H St). If you've been down that block recently, you may have noticed construction going on at the front of this building. It has been largely renovated and is now for sale prepared to finish for use as restaurant/retail with a possible residential unit above.

The list price is $749,000. The location is great, but it will be interesting to see if a semifinished building merits that high of a price tag.

Reminder: H Street Farmer's Market resumes Saturday 9 am -12 noon

Reminder that the H Street FreshFarm Farmers' Market will reopen this Saturday on the south side of the 600 block of H Street.

Casey Taylor Patten of Taylor Gourmet will be on hand as the features Chef at the Market and various other festitivies are planned for the day. The Market will also feature new vendors this year, including Red Apron Butchery's famed charcuterie from Chef Nathan Anda, Dolcezza Gelato, and Dangerously Delicious Pies. This Saturday, Metro Mutts will be on hand with frozen yogurt for your dogs!

Souk adding beer/wine and expanded back dining room this weekend

Souk (1208 H St) plans to install their bar now that they have their liquor license along the west wall in the front dining room. Souk is also prepared to open their back dining room, which should seat an additional 20 diners and looks very nice. They hope to debut the bar and the back dining room this weekend.

They also recently improved the seating in their main dining room by installing a bench with cushions, similar to what they have in the front window seats. If you haven't been to dine at Souk recently, you should do so again soon.

Souk is open til 10 during the week, 12 am on weekends, and closed Mondays.
