DPR Offers "DPR Fun Day" During DC Public Schools' Professional Development Days

Select recreation centers will offer enriching activities during the 2013-2014 DCPS school year

The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced that during the 2013-2014 school year, when DC Public Schools (DCPS) will be closed for staff development, the agency will offer "DPR Fun Day," a single-day program that offers fun and enriching activities (such as sports and athletics, arts and crafts, and more) to children between the ages of 6 and 12 years old. DPR strives to meet the needs of District families when the District's public schools are closed for DCPS Professional Development days.

DPR Fun Day will be offered at select DPR sites on the following three days: Friday, October 18, 2013; Friday, February 14, 2014; and Friday, May 2, 2014.

Starting with the first DCPS closure, 14 DPR sites will offer fun day camps on Friday, October 18, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. DPR Fun Day will incorporate DPR’s “Move, Grow and Be Green” initiative, as DPR continues to plant the seeds of personal development and environmental responsibility.

Sites offering DPR Fun Day include:

Sherwood Recreation Center - 640 10th Street, NE | (202) 698-3075

Children should be sent with their lunch and snacks for the day as DPR staff will not provide these items. Parents are asked to adhere to DPR's policies on food and snacks, which will be available on DPR's website at the time of registration.

Although there is no registration fee for this program, online pre-registration is required.

Registration for each of the 2013-2014 DPR Fun Days will open two weeks prior to each fun day. Therefore, registration for the first fun day will open on Friday, October 4, at 10:00 am. There is no "application" for enrollment, but all registration must be completed online.
Space fills on a first-come, first-served basis and enrollment at each site is subject to availability. It is recommended that parents create an online account for all members of their family in DPR's registration system before the registration period in order to be prepared. Registration closes at 12 pm on Thursday, October 17, 2013.
