Charles Allen Chief of Staff to Tommy Wells launching campaign to become next Ward 6 Councilmember Tuesday night in Hill East

Charles Allen has served as Ward 6 Councilmember Tommy Wells's Chief of Staff for the past several years.  With Councilmember Wells relinquishing his seat to seek the Mayorship, Charles is now seeking to represent us as our new Councilmember.  The press release announcing his campaign via a series of living room sessions with neighbors in neighborhoods across Ward 6 follows.  Charles will formally launch his campaign at the home of longtime ANC Commissioner Francis Campbell in Hill East on Tuesday, at 6:30 pm.  Campbell had previously expressed his own intentions to seek this position, so his decision to help Charles launch his own campaign speaks volumes.

We've known Charles for years -- he lives in this neighborhood, he's done tremendous work as Chief of Staff to Councilmember Wells and helping with many issues in our area.  In an Ward ripe with talented public servants, Charles stands out as the obvious choice to succeed Wells for this important position.  Like so many of our neighbors, we're grateful to Charles for his good work helping this neighborhood address its challenges and realize its potential and we're thrilled to see him seeking the opportunity to continue to represent us going forward.

Charles Allen to Seek Ward 6 Council Seat; Will Announce Candidacy On Tuesday, October 15th
On Tuesday, October 15, 2013, Charles Allen will announce his candidacy for Ward 6 Councilmember. Allen will seek the Democratic nomination in the April 1, 2014 primary election.
“Having served my Ward 6 neighbors in a variety of roles over the last decade, I am ready and excited to take on the challenge of representing their interests as a member of the DC Council,” said Allen.
“People choose to call Ward 6 home because our neighborhoods are an extension of our living rooms – with great schools you can walk to, parks to gather in, and local businesses that know you by name.  These serve as anchors for our communities and we must ensure that all residents see this vision realized,” Allen stated.
To announce his candidacy for the Ward 6 Council seat, Allen has planned a different type of campaign launch – a series of events hosted by neighbors in their “living rooms” that will take him into communities throughout the Ward, directly to the people. Rather than create a single event in only one part of the Ward, this weeklong Living Room Launch will bring the campaign into peoples’ homes, their businesses and their communities.  These personal gatherings will allow Allen to share his vision, hear directly from neighbors, and highlight his deep knowledge of the issues facing all of its families.
“Ward 6 has a great story to tell, but we also have new challenges to face together. I’m a problem solver and reformer by nature, and I’m excited to take on this next role,” stated Allen.
Allen is the former Chief of Staff for Councilmember Tommy Wells and has been an active leader in Ward 6 for years. Allen began his service to the District as policy director for the DC Primary Care Association and he has been a prominent voice in progressive priorities and social justice issues facing our city.
Charles Allen, his wife Jordi Hutchinson, and their daughter Cora Neal, live at 15th and D Streets, NE.
