Capitol City Symphony 2010-2011 schedule

CAPITAL CITY SYMPHONY 2010-2011 Season

Washington, D.C. (July 30, 2010) -- The Capital City Symphony, the resident orchestra at the Atlas Performing Arts Center, has an exciting line-up planned for its 2010-2011 season, including their popular Family Concert in November and the FREE Community Carol Sing in December. Enjoy high-quality music at a fraction of the cost of other venues!

Their 43rd season will highlight what the Capital City Symphony does best: make music approachable by presenting affordable concerts to the public, performing creative programs in a relaxed concert format, and providing appealing performance opportunities for talented amateur as well as professional players.

On September 25, there will be a pre-season Special Event: an encore performance of Symphony Lounge, featuring Charlie Barnett's cool jazz band, Chaise Lounge, along with the full Capital City Symphony. This concert will also include a reprise of the Orchestral Suite "The Tarot" by Charlie Barnett, which was premiered by CCS in March. The performancewill be followed by a CD release party for “Chaise Lounge: Symphony Lounge,” a recording of the March concert.

Every other year the Capital City Symphony features the winner of the Ylda Novik Memorial Piano Competition. This year's winner, pianist Sarah Barham, will be the guest artist for the October 17th concert, playing Liszt's Totentanz.

Two of the Capital City Symphony's annual favorites are the the Family Concert and the Carol Sing Concert. For the Family Concert on November 14, Maestra Victoria Gau will tackle “The Case of the Missing Melody.” Each of the two performances will be preceded by the popular CCS Instrument Petting Zoo. There will also be two performances of the FREE Carol Sing Concert, on December 5 -- an H Street holiday tradition!

The Capital City Symphony's spring concerts on March 20 and May 8 will include such stirring works as Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man, Shostakovich Symphony No. 5, and Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition.

Children 16 and under are FREE for all main season Capital City Symphony concerts. The orchestra's youngest audience members particularly enjoy the annual Family Concert, with its instrument petting zoo and interactive concert, including a special program book just for the younger set. Due to popular demand, a second performance will once again be offered this season.

All concerts are held at the Atlas Performing Arts Center, 1333 H Street NE, Washington, DC. Special Event tickets are $20-$30 (no discounts). Regular Season Tickets are $16-$25 with discounts for seniors and students. Children 16 and under are free to most concerts, but a ticket is required. Discount Season Packages are available. Directions and parking information can be found at Atlasarts.org. There is a FREE H Street Shuttle from Gallery Place and Minnesota Avenue Metro stations.

Special Event tickets for Symphony Lounge are on sale now. Season Subscriptions and Individual Season Tickets go on sale in late August. Tickets available at AtlasArts.org or call the Atlas Box Office at 202-399-7993
