Maury Elementary School will be hosting a yard sale on

SATURDAY, October 5
9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
RAIN OR SHINE!

Donations of items for the yard sale will be accepted at Maury
beginning Monday, September 23 through 10 am on the day of the sale.
Please bring the items to Maury between 8 am and 6 pm, Monday through
Friday, and leave them on the stage of the multi-purpose room. Maury
is located at 1250 Constitution Avenue NE, one block north of Lincoln
Park.

Thank you for your support of Maury’s PTA, a 501(c)(3) organization.
Our fundraising efforts pay for aides for our upper grades as well as
books and other resources. Tax forms are available.

Rosedale Library Friends "Books and a Bite Sale"-- Sunday October 6, 1 to 4 pm

Please join the Friends of the Rosedale Library (FORL) at our first annual Books-and-a-Bite Sale on Sunday, October 6th from 1 to 4 pm at Rosedale Library (1701 Gales Street NE).

We'll have books for all ages, baked goods, and even some photographs.

We're celebrating the first Sunday open of all DC Libraries, and raising funds for FORL's programs and events at Rosedale library.

2013 H Street Festival a Huge Success

 

On Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, an estimated crowd of 100,000 people attended the 2013 H Street Festival, making it the most highly attended and successful year in the event’s history.

Organized by H Street Main Street, the festival showcased over 50 artists and 80 performances on 10 stages accompanied by an array of local, regional and international cuisine, shopping, arts exhibits, educational events, seminars and conversations with local entrepreneurs, artists and community organizations spanning 10 blocks of H Street NE.

The annual event is one of the most popular festivals in the Washington, DC area. This year's celebration attracted tens of thousands of foodies, art aficionados, wine and beer connoisseurs and music lovers to one of the city’s fastest-growing and most exciting areas.

“This year, the H Street NE Corridor won a Great American Main Street Award (GAMSA), so we knew we needed to build off of that success to make this year’s festival something really special,” said Anwar Saleem, Executive Director of H Street Main Street. “I can’t thank all of our sponsors, partners, volunteers and everyone else who made this event possible enough. When this neighborhood comes together and we put our hearts and minds towards doing something, we can accomplish anything. The sky really is the limit for H Street.”

Save the Date for Taste of H to benefit local school J.O. Wilson Elementary: Sunday, October 13, 5 pm at the Atlas Performing Arts Center (1333 H St)

The second annual Taste of H Auction to support J.O. Wilson Elementary School is on Sunday, October 13th, 2013 from 5-9 p.m. at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. Enjoy a food tasting from some of the best restaurants on H Street, indulge in some wine or beer, listen to live music and bid on amazing items in the silent auction.

The live auction will kick off at 8:00 p.m.with items including box seats to Wizards games, lunches, TVs and more! Tickets are $35 each and can be purchased at www.tasteofh.org.

Announcing the 2013 H Street Festival, Bigger and Better Than Ever Before

The 2013 H Street Street Festival—Washington, DC’s premier neighborhood festival— will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013.
Organized by H Street Main Street, the festival will feature over 50 artists and 80 performances on 10 stages accompanied by an array of local, regional and international cuisine, shopping, arts exhibits, educational events, seminars and conversations with local entrepreneurs, artists and community organizations spanning 10 blocks of H Street NE.
This annual event is one of the most popular festivals in Washington, DC, attracting thousands of foodies, art aficionados, wine and beer connoisseurs and music lovers to one of the city’s fastest-growing and most exciting areas.
More than 150 local restaurants, vendors and food trucks will offer a bounty of food selections, including international cuisine, regional fare and much more. The festival will also have several beer gardens and vodka tasting areas featuring a wide array of libations from breweries and distilleries.
The uniqueness of the art and fine crafts in DC is unrivaled and a big part of the identity and culture of the H Street NE area. That’s why this year’s festival will host a variety of art cars, artist booths and installations. These displays are sure to delight art enthusiasts of all types and will allow festivalgoers to interact with displays and talk one-on-one with their creators.
In addition to food, wine, beer and art, the festival has 10 stages with a variety of entertainment, which will feature some of the best local and regional performers in rock-n-roll, rap, jazz, opera, soul music, gospel, Caribbean and more. There will also be pie eating and tattoo contests, live boxing, martial arts demonstrations and many more non-musical performances.

The festival’s emphasis on the distinctiveness and vibrancy of the H Street area extends beyond the food, art and music. Visit the DC Fashion Week stage and help area designers kick off their annual celebration of fashion. Or for a more family-oriented atmosphere, the kids and family zone will be serving up kid-friendly entertainment and interactive events from start until close. The festival will also feature a fitness area, featuring a climbing wall sponsored by REI, as well as other health-promoting events and vendors.
Sponsors of the event include, Giant, 360 H, Stuart Investment, SVEDKA Vodka, REI, DC Food Truck Association, Gallaudet, CW50, Wal-Mart and the Washington City Paper.

Festival hours are from noon – 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013. The festival will take place from the 400 block to the 1400 block of H Street NE.

Meeting on state of NPS managed Capitol Hill Parks, Tuesday, September 10, 6:30 pm at Lincoln Park United Methodist (1301 North Carolina Ave NE)

A Capitol Hill Parks community meeting with the National Parks Service has been scheduled for Tuesday, September 10, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. The meeting will occur at the Lincoln Park United Methodist Church at 1301 North Carolina Ave., N.E, (Fellowship Hall).  Neighbors can attend and learn about the National Park Service's goals related to Capitol Hill parks and discuss how to enhance community involvement. 

Topics to be discussed include the following:

· Updates on Rodent Management

· Playground Equipment (Replacement/ Safety Inspections)

· Short-term and Long-term Park Plans (Renovations for community preparedness)

· Planned Facility/ Grounds Maintenance Projects (Community Volunteer Opportunities)

· Friends Group (Invite stakeholder/ community dialogue with upper management)

· Space for Dogs / Dog Leash Laws

· Community Bulletin Boards

· NPS Online Map of property management
