A New Friends Group for Rosedale Library
There's a brand new and easy way to show your support for the new library at 17th and Gales Street, NE… join the "Friends of the Rosedale Library" (FORL).
Like other Friends groups in DC and across the country, FORL is a 501(c)(3) membership organization that encourages the use of the resources and services of our local library. We’ll raise funds for materials and special programs, recruit volunteers for both FORL and the Library, and advocate for the Rosedale Library and the DC Library System. Rosedale Friends is a member of the Federation of Friends of the DC Public Library.
To join, please print out the membership application (below) and follow the instructions on the form. Dues are $10 annually for individuals, $5 for senior citizens, $5 for students under 18, and $25 for businesses and organizations. All dues and additional contributions are fully tax deductible.
Membership forms are also available at the Library. If you have questions, please email us at friendsoftherosedalelibrary@gmail.com.
And now for some news about the Library….
What’s New at the New Rosedale Library
If you haven't visited the Rosedale Library yet, now is a good time to "check out" the bright, relaxing space. Opened in October, 2012, it's the first full-service library in the area in years. Built next to the Rosedale Recreation Center at 1701 Gales Street, NE, (two blocks south of Benning Road), it’s easy to get to from neighborhoods in Wards 6, 5 and 7.
With a growing collection of books, e-books, dvds and cds; 26 computers (8 for children and teens); comfortable seating; Wi-Fi, and a knowledgeable staff, it's a great place to read, work, and research. Trace your family history with premium databases, download an e-book, peruse the New York Times or a magazine; drop in at the monthly book club, or access the free music site, Freegal, to download (and keep) up to three music selections a week.
Bring the little ones over for “Baby-Toddler Story Time” (Tuesdays @ 10:30 and 11 a.m.); while preschoolers will get a kick out of the rhymes, music, drama and crafts at “Story Time” (Thursdays @ 10 a.m.). Children and teens can drop in to a changing slate of programs, including a ‘hands-on’ nutrition workshop for children (3/27 @ 4 p.m.). Arts and crafts, seasonal events and special programs round out the offerings for adults and children. Students of all ages will appreciate the staff's research tips, and for those pesky homework problems, "Tutor.com" is just one of the many databases available.
Don't have a library card? They'll gladly sign you up. Have one from another branch? The staff will re-assign the card to your new neighborhood branch...Rosedale Library.
Hours: Monday and Wednesday - 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday: 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
