More accolaides for H Street in Tom Sietsema's Fall Dining Guide & WaPo Express Readers Best of Polls
Congratulations to Ethiopic and Toki Underground for their inclusion in Washington Post Dining Editor Tom Sietsema's Fall Dining Guide. Ethiopic has become a regular on Sietsema's lists of DC's best restaurants, but this is Toki's first inclusion. We're glad to see he's come around and recognized Erik's terrific good as worthy of the hype and the inevitable wait for seats.
The Washington Post Express Night Out polled city residents about the best spots in town and a host of H Street hotspots came up big.
Toki Underground was the choice for Best New Restaurant.
Dangerously Delicious won for best pies.
Sticky Rice won the most praise for sushi.
Taylor Gourmet was tops for sandwiches.
Ethiopic was runner up for best Ethiopian.
The Atlas Performing Arts Center was voted one of teh top three small theatres.
Biergarten Haus received the top honor for outdoor drinking.
The Pug was top two for best dive bar.
H Street Country Club was the best bar for game playing
Metro Mutts won as best pet store.
The X2 bus line came in third among city buses. That must be a reflection of its heavy ridership and not its quality of service, which we continue to find lacking due to its inefficiency. In the meantime, we prefer to bikeshare whenever possible.
Congratulations to all these great neighborhood businesses!

For over 30 years, Wayne White has
made an indelible mark on the creative world. As a designer, painter,
puppeteer, sculptor, and musician, Mr. White created images and ideas that are
an integral – yet sometimes subconscious – part of the pop culture lexicon. To
this day, he still gets up every morning to do the only thing his body and
mind were made to do…create. Whether the world acknowledges it or
not.
Part biography, part live
performance, Beauty Is Embarrassing, tells the irreverent and inspiring
story of this one-of-a-kind visual artist and raconteur. The film traces
White’s career from an underground cartoonist in New York’s East Village to his
big break as a designer, puppeteer and voice-over actor on Pee-wee’s
Playhouse for which he won three Emmy’s. It follows Wayne’s success
designing and animating for other children’s shows like Beakman’s World
and music videos for The Smashing Pumpkins (“Tonight, Tonight”) and Peter
Gabriel (“Big Time”) through a dark period of struggle and self-reflection
before emerging in his present-day incarnation as a respected painter and
performer. The film, like White, embraces the ragged edges and messy
contradictions of life, art, and family with rabid humor and
honesty.
ARTIST AND FILM SUBJECT WAYNE WHITE WILL APPEAR AT THE WEST END FOR A Q&A ON OCTOBER 20.
BEAUTY IS EMBARRASSING OPENS EXCLUSIVELY AT THE WEST END CINEMA ON OCTOBER 19.

Yes, that was President Obama on H Street Friday night enjoying dinner w/friends at Smith Commons
President Obama came to H Street for dinner for the second time this year on Friday night. The President arrived at Smith Commons at 5:40 pm and left around 7:30 pm. He brought three sets of supporters from around the country with him who were the winners of the latest "Dinner With Barack" campaign contest. President Obama's March 2012 dinner at Boundary Road Restaurant was the a part of that same contest.
The First Lady did not join the President on this visit, though she dined with him at Boundary Road and separately visited Sticky Rice last winter. Apparently, the President enjoyed his meal, he signed a copy of the menu for the restaurant and included a note saying "Great food!"
