Ben's Chili Bowl breaks ground on buildout at 10th & G NE, hopes to open later this year

It's been a year and a half since plans for Ben's Chili Bowl to fill 1001 H Street were first reported, but until recently there's been no visible progress on site.  We're pleased to report that Ben's has finally obtained the permits necessary to move forward and has broken ground on site.  Plans call for the former George's Place building to house a Ben’s Chili Bowl on the first level and a concept more akin to Ben’s Next Door -- with sit down service and a bar -- on the second floor.

The building itself will continue to be two stories tall, but will have higher ceilings.  The upstairs restuarant will also offer a roof deck.  If construction goes well, we'll have a Ben's on H Street by the end of the year.

  1. This sooooo fantastic! !! We loooove Bens Chilli Bowl. The long lines at the U st. Location never bothered us. Now we dont have to leave our little hipster neighborhood to get one of those delicious chili dogs. Yuuuuum :-) Bens eclectic vibe will fit in nicely with all the other cool and welcoming shops and restaurants of H St. Atlas district. Now all we need is ddot to finally finish the Street Cars so we can leave our bikes at home after a long night of drunkin junga at the Rock and Roll Hotel. Bring back Sova coffee ! !!!!!
