Our youth yoga mission isto have fun in a safe environment while learning about kindness and physical aswell as mental health by working together on basic yoga poses, songs, andrelaxation in a non-competitive atmosphere. Classes include meditation andbreathing exercises in addition to child friendly movements and poses.

The regular practice ofvinyasas, standing postures, and seated exercises “will accelerate thedevelopment skills such as small controlled movements, whole-body coordinationand control, and balance (NC School of Yoga).” Additionally, breathingexercises as well as sustained postures help develop patience and increasefocus which lead to a calm sense of being and possibly even a better night’ssleep.

As with all bodies, asana and pranayama help prevent illness to evenour youngest students. Movement and healthy breathing help provide fresh bloodand move lymph through the entire body assisting your immune system to ward anylingering unwanted bacteria or viruses. Yoga asanas are particularly beneficialfor growing bodies. As children’s bones are hardening and broadening andtendons, ligaments, and cartilage are settling into place children mayexperience discomfort. Gentle stretching will help with pain whilestrength-building postures will help with proper alignment and placement as thebody parts settles into a permanent place.

Boundary Road opens Monday at 414 H Street

We've been telling you that we're excited about Boundary Road for a year now and our enthusiasm has only increased as we've shared drafts of their menu and beer, wine and cocktail lists over the past couple months. Accordingly, we're thrilled to share that Boundary Road will open their doors to the public at 414 H Street on Monday, February 13.

Boundary Road is a neighborhood American Bistro whose Chef Brad Walker has cooked at great restaurants including, Central, Proof, Cashion's and Fiola, while his partner and their GM Karlos Leopald's background includes popular Columbia Heights beer tavern Meridian Pint. They've done a terrific job renovating 414 H Street, which you can get a taste of from these Washingtonian photos from a couple weeks back. Boundary Road is going to be one of the most attractive spaces on H Street and their menus and Chef Brad's background suggest they'll be offering delicious food and drink to match.

Eater has a nice piece on Smith Commons (1245 H St), which recently celebrated their first anniversary. It's been a really good first year for them, though we're sorry to see their GM Sheldon Robinson go earlier this month. Congrats to Jerome and Miles on a great first year and best wishes to Sheldon in New York!

DC's Office of Planning released their land use study on the streetcar line nad it bodes well for DC and for area property owners -- the system will produce great gains in property values and allow much of the cost of putting the system in motion to be offset by those gains. Stories covering this ran in the Post, WBJ, Examiner, DCist, TBD, DCmud, City Paper, and on the website of CM Tommy Wells. Unfortunately, a few neighbors are complaining about the streetcar barn, which will be located on Benning Road. We're not sure that there's any legitimate reason why.

The Capitol Hill Speciality Hospital at 8th & Mass is looking to move from long vacant to residential use. Curbed has a preview of the proposal. ANC6A reviewed this recently with neighbors as well.

Stuart Hobson Middle School (between 4th & 5th and E & F Sts) is pending modernization. Support the local Capitol Hill middle school by signing on.
Urban Land Institute says DOT's plans to consider the environmental impact of their funding decision is good news for DC streetcars.

The Pug (1234 H St) turns five next week and has a week of celebration planned.

Toki Underground (1234 H St) is doing cooking classes with Living Social (deal now via Living Social) and is also accepting a small number of reservations weeknights prior to 6 pm through City Eats. This is good news for anyone and everyone who has a hard time getting in there.

Boundary Road (414 H St) is getting really close to opening. And the place is gorgeous. Trust us when we say you're going to love it.

Boundary Road (414 H St) got a lot of attention with a 360 degree view of the space I Heart Food DC's post, Thrillist's preview revealing their awesome lighting and exposed brick, and this good description of their quality mid-range concept from the Washingtonian, which as a nice slideshow of their almost finished, already very attractive interior as well.

Impala (1358 H St) applied for their liquor license. There opening will be one of the most exciting of the year. The application doesn't reveal much other than that in addition to using the side patio between Impala and Gallery O on H, they hope to open a roof deck.

Washingtonian put their Best of H Street article online. It's a nice overview of some of H Street's best spots. It ran in the Best restaurants issue, which put Ethiopic and the Atlas Room in the top 100 restaurants in the metro area. Ethiopic made the top 10 list for "On the Rise" while Atlas Room was one of the top 10 new spots.

TBD on Foot has this preview of DDOT's meeting for the Maryland Avenue Pedestrian Safety Improvements. The meeting is this Saturday, 1-3 pm, at the Sherwood Recreation Center (640 10th St NE). Want to see a more pedestrian friendly Maryland Avenue with less speeding and improvements to the dangerous intersections at 7th & 10th St, which currently lack stop lights? Go to the meeting and let your voice be heard.

Huffington Post picks up on saki on tap on Toki Underground. We missed this, but apparently there's a saki tap and a series of saki cocktails available now.

DDOT Seeking Community Input on Pedestrian Safety Improvement Alternatives

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is hosting an interactive workshop for the Maryland Avenue Pedestrian Safety Corridor Project on Saturday, January 28.

As part of this interactive workshop, the project team will introduce various safety improvement alternatives to the community to solicit feedback. The improvement alternatives that will be presented entail the reconfiguration of intersections, adjustments to parking, pedestrian safety treatments, transit stop relocations and amenity options, the addition of left turn lanes, bike lanes, removal of travel lanes, and landscaping improvements within the public space. The project team will discuss the potential impacts and gauge initial public support for each of the various alternatives that will be presented.

Members of the business community, residents and other interested stakeholders are invited to attend this meeting to view the proposals and provide input. The meeting will begin with a 30 minute project overview presentation and attendees are welcome to stop by any time during the scheduled hours.

The project study area is located between 2nd Street, NE and 14th Street, NE, and includes the roadways along the perimeter of Stanton Park. More specific information about this project is available at tooledesign.com/marylandave.

Fear of Virginia started building their folk-rock sound in 2011. With the help of locals throughout the region we provided a FreeFest alternative and played to crowds throughout the many venues DC has to offer. What began as a few friends drinking whiskey in a living room playing covers has since turned into a staple of the local rock scene, churning out folk-rock originals all over the district we call home.

“’For too long DC has been the butt of jokes from hipsters in New York and the East Coast Music Establishment. We aim to change their minds and prove that musical greatness comes from the Nation’s Capital. Of course, they’re hipsters so, that may not be possible as we refuse to wear skinny jeans,’” said bass player and DC resident David Turner.

We are excited today to announce that we are planning to continue celebrating the resurgence of local music with our friends the Highballers and the XO’s. The show begins at 9 PM and will be a great celebration of music honed in the garages and living rooms of those who call DC home. Fear not, even though the show is planned for Friday the 13th of January, it is nowhere near Virginia. The lineup surely will not disappoint and for the price of $10, we could think of no better way to kick off 2012 at DC’s favorite hotel.

The Red Palace rolled out their new kitchen & menu with some fun stuff on it. Anyone tried anything yet?
American Eagle had a nice piece on H Street for visitors to DC in their in flight magazine.

The City Paper reports that H Street Playhouse is likely to move a few blocks east when their lease is up at the end of the year in the face of rising rent demands from their landlord. We'll be sorry to see them move, but hope they don't go more than a few blocks futher out and wonder if the new Flats At Atlas development might be interested in them as a marquee draw tenant.

Prince of Petworth heard that Ace Hardware might open at 700 H St. Housing Complex confirms that the main Ace franchisee in DC (Gina Schaefer with her husband Mark Friedman) is looking on H Street, but doesn't think that's the location they'll end up in. Our sources say they're both more right than wrong and that we'll have confirmation of an Ace Hardware coming to H Street soon.

Mike Neibauer reports in the Washington Business Journal that Mayor Gray has not responded to requests from neighborhood residents and several ANC Commissioners to come forward with the city's plans for the development on Reservation 13 on the eastern end of the Hill.

We broke the news that The Daily Rider would bring a bike shop to 1108 H St. This is one of a few retail shops we've been hearing about lately with another one on the 700 block and one on the 400 block in the works as well.

Jonathan O'Connell reported in the Post on the East Banc developer whose redoing Hine (across from Eastern Market -- which is apparently under consideration for DC's Eataly) and who recently purchased the Bladensburg Rd site just east of H Street that currently houses CVS. Sounds like there will be another major development coming to the corridor on the western end of Bladensburg Rd in the coming years.

We told you that the The Daily Rider would be atthe H Street Festival with hopes to open a shop on H Street back in September and now we're thrilled to report that they are bringing their stylish, urban bike shop to 1108 H Street this spring.

The Daily Rider will offer all the best in urban bike gear -- cruier bikes (including Bobbins & Pashleys), attractive helmets (including Yakkays), and comfortable clothing that you can wear on your bike commute and keep on all day long. No spandex pants with big padded rear ends, but all the best gear to commute to and from work or to stroll around your liveable, walkable, bikeable neighborhood.

The Daily Riderwill not only be the first bike shop on H Street, but also arguably the first truly urban, stylish bikeshop of its kind in Washington, DC, making it destination retail for bike lovers throughout the city and for bike loving tourists in town for a visit. They'll join a few other new daytime retail options on H Street this year, but will also be open late Thursday through Saturday nights to welcome foot traffic from the H Street nightlife scene, which seems like a terrific idea. Councilmember Tommy Wells announced he's hosting a meeting with MPD regarding neighborhood crime concerns on Thursday, at the Hill Center (10th & Penn SE) from 6:30-8:30 pm.

The Washington Post Five Bar Trends for 2011 is pretty into H Street, touting new roof decks and back patios at Rock n Roll Hotel, Tru Orleans, Biergarten Haus, Smith Commons, and the Queen Vic, and sharing the good news that H Street is not to be mistaken for Adams Morgan, noting that the new places that opened on H Street this year "seem more urbane" and "sophisticated" highlighting Church & State's high-end cocktails, the British pub vibe at the Queen Vic, sophisticated ramen at Toki Underground, the multicultural vibe and craft beers at Smith Commons, the Wall Street-esque pricing scheme at the Big Board.

The Washington Post also says Star & Shamrock is the go-to spot for Heebsters (Hip Jews).

Big Board (421 H St) launched weekday lunch service. Remember they are closed Tuesdays, but now there's a great spot to grab a bite on the western end of H Street durign the week. Take note, Senate, SEC, NoMa workers and other folks in the neighborhood during the day.

Washingtonian released their top 100 very best restaurants list and Ethiopic (401 H St) and The Atlas Room (1015 H St) both made the cut. The January issue also has a nice "Best of H Street" guide that highlights 13 local businesses.

We Love DC returned to Smith Commons (1245 H St) and still kinda loves it. It's hard to believe they've still only been open a little under a year.

Pamela's Punch checks out Shawafel (1322 H St) and left big fans.

The Hill is Home had a nice preview of Atlas Vets (1326 H St), which should be opening early 2012.

The Washington Post reports that DC is growing faster than any state in the country with dramatic growth over the past year and a half since the census was conducted.

Mike Neibauer of the Washington Business Journal reported that Councilmember Mary Cheh briefly held up the DDOT contracts for additional streetcars needed to run the H Street line. Cheh subsequently released her hold according to an update from Neibauer.

Frozen Tropics says a "women's boutique" is coming in above Philadelphia Water Ice at 1204 H St.

Kherpa's Raw Foods - a raw foods store is now open at 402 H St on weekends.

The Big Board (421 H St) announced they are opening for lunch Monday-Friday starting this Monday, January 2, at 11 am.

The Atlas Room (1015 H St) is stopping Sunday brunch service for the time being, but planning on starting Monday dinner service soon.

The next H Street Bakes will be Sunday, January 22, 11:30 am at the Big Board (421 H St).

Several new spots to eat, drink & enjoy music coming to H Street between 10th & 14th

There's been a flurry of new applications to open restaurants along the eastern half of H Street in recent weeks. While many of the new businesses have been relatively quiet, here's a quick preview of the most recent additions to our coming soon to H Street list.

HR-57 is moving from 816 H Street to 1007-1009 H Street and plans to open a cafe in the front of the new buildings. Tony Pusean has had a lease on these buildings since before he opened HR-57 in its current location and has always intended to move it here and to open another music venue, which he's described to us in the past as a Blues spot at 816 H St. What's new is the plans to install a cafe called Alchemy in the front of the shop. Look for regular cafe hours with 7 am opening, caffeinated beverages, house roasted coffee beans, and fresh pastries early next year. These 1007-1009 buildings are single story in height and not especially impressive from the street, but we understand HR-57 plans to make some changes to improve the facades, including adding windows and french doors. The new venue for HR-57 will also have a full kitchen and a larger capacity. Once HR-57 is open, they'll start getting the blues spot, which will be called Be Bop Cafe ready to go at 816 H.

1128 H Street was formerly home to Naby's Island at the NW corner of 12th & H and will be home Casbah an Indian/Pakistani (South Asian) restaurant next year. The owners have applied to use the public space along 12th Street for al fresco dining and plan to add additional windows along 12th Street as well with the possibility of an outdoor bar area, akin to what the Argonaut added after the fire.

1200 H Street was previously considered a possibility for a wine, cheese, and hookah bar, but now appears destined to be a Mediterranean restaurant. We understand this was from the current owner of Souk.

1251 H Street was until recently home to Danny's carryout, next door to Smith Commons. It's now going to be the permanent home to Sol Mexican Grill. Sol already operates a food truck by that name. They plan to use both of the building's two levels with a casual dining space downstairs and a tequileria upstairs offering 100 tequilas and sit down dining.
1255 H Street was until recently home to a store specializing in incense and scented oils. That store has reopened on the 1400 block of H Street and the building has been sold. The new owners of the building plan a restaurant called The Spot specializing in Latin American cuisine and have some changes to the building planned as well. The restaurant will be large and will use both floors and plan to install a roof garden deck. There will also be cooking classes in the back of the building.

1324 H Street is slated to be home to Chicken Tortilla. This will be the second outpost of a Barracks Row rotisserie Peruvian chicken restaurant. The restaurant is slated for the building next door to Shawafel. Taylor Charles Steak & Ice -- the cheesesteak spot from the Taylor Gourmet guys -- is planned for the other side of Shawafel.

Finally, we don't yet know what type of business will open at 1216-1218 H Street, but the construction of the new building here has resumed after some permitting issues held it up. We're told the new building will be in full compliance with the H Street Overlay and applicable zoning.

These venues join already in the works Taylor Charles Steak & Ice (1320 H St) (Philly Cheesesteaks), Impala (1358 H St) (Mexican), and a new spot from Ben's Chili Bowl (1001 H St) in the long and growing list of new restaurants coming to the eastern half of H Street next year.

The Washington Business Journal reported that streetcars number 4 and 5 for the H Street line have been ordered. The first three came from the Czechs, but for these two DDOT got a better price offer from United Streetcar, LLC in Portland.

DDOT will be updating the community on the streetcar line's interim termini and Union Station connection tonight, 6 pm, at the Atlas.

Bitches Who Brunch really liked Sticky Rice's (1224 H St) Sakimosas and Crab Sticky Balls, but said it was the "glorious sushi" that made for "the brunch win."

Roll Call checks out the Big Board (421 H St). Apparently, they are getting ready to start lunch service soon.

The Washington Post's Tim Carman reports that Taylor Charles Steak & Ice (1320 H St) -- the Philly cheesesteak spot from the Taylor Gourmet guys has run into some structural problems with their building, which has delayed their targeted opening until Spring.

DC Urban Turf has a nice piece on Popularise.com the site from the WestMill Capital group that is soliciting input for the 1351 H St property they recently purchased. These are the same folks who also recently acquired the Autozone property on the 1200 block of H Street. Popular ideas for the site include Durkl clothing store and a Red Rocks pizzeria (both businesses are looking to relocate to H Street and are interested in this site), a gym, a bagel shop, a bakery, and some other good ideas for this site or another on H Street.

Frozen Tropics has begun rounding up some of the NYE options on H Street.

ANC6A has committee meetings this week. Tonight 7 pm, at Sherwood, the Alcohol Licensing Committee reviews applications for new spots at 1007 H St, 1128 H St, 1200 H St, 1253 H St, 1251 H St, and 1324 H St. Tomorrow 7 pm, at Sherwood, the Economic Development & Zoning Committee review a request for zoning relief to allow a gas station at 1400 Maryland.

H Street - Benning Road Streetcar Line Workshop

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is hosting a workshop on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 to seek public input on the proposed interim connection to Union Station and the various architectural elements that are under consideration for the operations base and maintenance facility that is planned for 26th Street and Benning Road, NE. DDOT will also share details about the overhead wire installation, and supporting poles, and the substations along the line.

The initial deadline forapplications was October 26, 2011. A second opportunity to submit applicationsis currently underway, with a deadline of January 4, 2012 at 5:00pm.

Eligible organizations and entities:

Eligibleapplicants include retail businesses engaged in the sale of home furnishings,apparel, books, art, groceries, and general merchandise goods to specializedcustomers. Special consideration shall be given to retail developments thatinclude entrepreneurial and innovative retail elements. Eligible retail development projects shall not include liquor stores,restaurants, nightclubs, hair salons, barber shops, and phone stores.

Eligible applicants must possess all of thefollowing prior to an award being made:

Site control of the property either through fee simple ownership of the site or through an executed contract or lease with the property owner;
Direct frontage on the H Street, N.E., corridor from 3^rd Street, N.E., to 15^th Street, N.E.;

Popularise.com was launched by the folks behind Westmill Capital (who owns the Autozone property & 1351 H Street). They're asking for your input on what to bring to 1351 H Street and elsewhere. Thanks, to the DC Department of Transportation, H Street is now well-served by Capital Bikeshare with two new bikeshare stations installed at 6th & H and 11th & H today. Both stations have been planned since Bikeshare was launched over a year ago and received lots of votes at the public input hearing on where Bikeshare should expand. Additional stations are expected to be installed at 6th & Florida (near Gallaudet) and 7th & Maryland (near the NE Branch Library & Stanton Park) before long.

7th St neighbors seek your help in negotiating agreement w/ proposed Xclusive Restaurant & Lounge at 707 H St

Xclusive Restaurant & Lounge is seeking a Tavern Class liquor license to operate at 707 H Street. Several neighbors have organized a petition to encourage them to enter into an agreement to mitigate the impact they would have on the surrounding neighborhood. Of particular note to the neighbors, is the applicant's request to serve alcohol until 3 am on a stretch of H Street where there are currently no places serving alcohol. Councilmember Tommy Wells to Host 5th Annual Livable, Walkable Awards

On Thursday, December 8th, Councilmember Tommy Wells will honor several city leaders with the 5th Annual Livable, Walkable Awards at the Hill Center at the newly renovated Old Naval Hospital, 921 Pennsylvania Ave, SE, 6:30 – 8:30 pm.

“To create a truly livable, walkable community, it takes leadership and vision -- not just from those elected to office, but alsofrom our neighbors, city employees, civic organizations, and local businesses,” said Mr. Wells. Nominations were made by the community and an award will be given in each of these categories, in addition to a new award this year celebrating civic pride.

Affectionately known in the community as “TheBrickies,” the event is sponsored by dozens of Ward 6 local businesses.There will be food, cash bar, and live entertainment at the awards ceremony to honor the recipients. A short program will begin at approximately 7:15 pm to announce the awards.

Community Organization Award – Neighbors of Southwest Duck Pond

Great parks help to create livable, walkable neighborhoods.As part of the Southwest DC urban renewal project of the 1960s and 70s, the Town Center Parks were created. The westernmost park was the largest, including benches, trees, walkways, and a large pond. Over time, the park fell into disrepair, but families of ducks adopted the pond as their home –returning year after year. A few years ago, neighbors began the process to reclaim the park and gave birth to Neighbors of Southwest Duck Pond –creating a partnership with the DC Department of Parks and Recreation and successfully lobbying the Council to officially rename the park as the Southwest Duck Pond. Today, weekend clean-ups are a regular occurrence and the park is thriving with neighbors enjoying a clean and useful public space, with regular programming for the community taking shape. Accepting the award on behalf of the organization is Zen McInnis and Melissa Rohan.

Business Award– SOVA Espresso & Wine

A livable, walkable neighborhood needs a great coffee shop.One of many symbols that celebrate the diversity on H Street NE, is SOVA Espresso & Wine. First opened in 2007, owner Frank Hankins has made SOVA a neighborhood mainstay and gathering place. Quick to support neighborhood efforts, SOVA hosts weekly bluegrass nights, holds display space for neighborhood artists, and never says no when a neighborhood group needs a place to meet. Frank has built a welcoming business that is just as lively on its sidewalk, as it is inside one of its many rooms and seating areas. With strollers and bikes parked up outside, SOVA has made a great example of what a neighborhood business means within walking distance of so many homes.

Public Service Award – Capital Bikeshare

A livable, walkable city is even more so when it’sbikeable too! To put it mildly, Capital Bikeshare has been an unmitigated success. The DC Department of Transportation has revolutionized the way people think about bicycles in our city. In one year, 18,000 people joined Bikeshare and took more than 1,000,000 rides – more than twice what was projected.In this year’s budget, the city is doubling the support for the program so that it can grow to keep up with demand and expand to more parts of the city. Of course, it takes many hands to make CapitalBikeshare so successful, and accordingly this award goes to many of our fine public servants to share – Terry Bellamy, Director of DDOT; Chris Holben,DDOT’s Capital Bikeshare Project Director; Eric Gilliland, General Manager of Capital Bikeshare’s operator Alta; and Jim Sebastian,DDOT’s Bicycle Program Manager.

Civic Pride Award– Coldwell Banker Holiday Display

A new award is being presented this year to celebrate unique initiatives that build and support a livable, walkable city, as well as engender civic pride in the process. Each year, neighbors anxiously await as the Coldwell Banker real estate office transforms their storefront and sidewalk windows into a winter wonderland display. For the pedestrian outside, it is impossible to miss and enlivens the sidewalk and walking experience for every passerby. Accepting the award on behalf of Coldwell Banker are agents Chuck Burger and Phyllis Jane Young.

Meeting Agenda:

1. Proposed road diet for K St NE between North Capital and Florida Avenue: ANC 6C04 Rep. Tony Goodman is requesting a road diet for K St. so that traffic is limited to two lanes (one lane in each direction) at all times. As it stands today, drivers are allowed to use a third travel lane during rush hour periods. If approved, this proposal would allow residents to park on both sides of K St at all hours. Additionally, the proposal calls for the addition of bike lanes or other bike facilities. The addition of bike facilities on K St would provide a much needed east/west cycling connection between NOMA and the restaurants and bars in the Atlas District on H St.

2. 1050 1st St NE: New curb cuts on L Street for proposed new office building at 1050 First Street NE by Trammell Crow.

3. Sale of city owned alley space behind 21 7th St. NE: Residential property owner seeks permission to buy a small parcel of city owned alley space behind her house to allow parking. Apparently the alley is a dead end and neighbors are supportive of the sale. Owner Lyudmila Tregubova and Agent David Gemcarelli are scheduled to appear.

4. Erection of stop signs on 4th St. at I St NE and 6th St. at I St NE: ANC 6C04 Rep. Tony Goodman is requesting the erection of the stop signs to slow traffic and create safer conditions for pedestrians.

Burglary Prevention tips from MPD First District Commander Hickson

More helpful suggestions on deterring home burglaries from MPD. Not mentioned is a home security system, though we've heard police recommend them frequently in the past and recommend them ourselves.

Burglary Prevention Tips
· Keep all doors and windows closed and securely fastened. An open window or door is an open invitation for burglars. Thieves are also quick to spot weak locks that may be easily forced open. Doors should have deadbolt locks with a one inch throw and reinforced strike plate with three inch screws. All windows should have window locks.
· Secure sliding glass doors. Place a metal rod or piece of plywood in the track and install vertical bolts. These will help prevent burglars from forcing the door open or lifting it off the track.
· Always lock the door to an attached garage. Don’t rely on your automatic garage door opener for security.
· Create the illusion that you are home by using timers on lights, radios and TV’s. Making your residence appear occupied, even when no one is home, will deter criminals.
· Keep the perimeter of your home well lighted. Installing low voltage outdoor lighting is a cost-effective way to discourage intruders, as well as highlight a house. These should be supplements by bright motion-sensitive lighting.
· Never leave clues that you are away on a trip. Have a trusted neighbor collect mail and newspapers while you are away so delivered items do not accumulate. You can also ask a neighbor to park in your driveway or parking place to make it appear that you are present.
· Keep some shades and blinds up and curtains open to maintain a normal, everyday appearance in your residence.
· Never leave a message on your telephone answering machine telling people that you are away from home. A message that you will return at a certain time leaves your home vulnerable in the interim.
· Keep shrubbery trimmed away from entrances and walkways. While large, ornate hedges may be beautiful, they also provide a hiding place for burglars who need only a minute to break in through a window or door.

Our number 1 tip is to always lock your doors and windows. I’m sure that some think that it is silly to remind folks to lock their doors, but you may be surprised how many unlocked homes are burglarized. During the holiday season we also need to be aware of advertising to potential thieves what items you may have received as gifts. Be mindful of how you dispose of boxes for computers, televisions and video game systems.

The First District also has officers who have experience in conducting home security surveys. If you would like an officer to conduct a survey and assessment of your home, contact your PSA lieutenant.

Streetcar meeting summary

The Streetcar meeting was standing room only and several people were turned away as the room filled to capacity. The meeting was informative, especially in terms of dispelling some myths and getting out some basic background information about the plans for the line down H Street. DDOT posted the presentation online at their DCStreetcar.com website.

There was not a lot of news from the meeting itself. The biggest news was that they are still on track for Summer 2013 for operating cars down H Street and that the access point to Union Station would be from the H Street "Hopscotch" Bridge near what would be 1st & H NE. That news was cheered by residents near 3rd & F St who didn't want the streetcars running down their narrow side road, but little additional detail about why this option would work well, or even quite how it would work in terms of accessing the metro at Union Station was presented. That will hopefully be the subject of the next streetcar meeting back at the Atlas on December 20, at 6 pm.

Construction on the bridge, for the power substations and the car barn at the eastern end will begin this Spring. The cars will run from early morning until at least midnight. The plan is still to eventually continue the line west through downtown all the way to Georgetown, so the Union Station connection is emphasized as being "temporary." Same goes for the western end point as the hope and plan is for it to continue further east as well.

The presentation from last night was quite comprehensive on most points besides the details of the Union Station connection and is worth a review for anyone who was unable to attend the meeting. The next meeting on December 20 will focus on the interim connection to Union Station, which remains our biggest question going ahead.

Theft from Auto Prevention Tips from MPD First District Commander

Here's another round of good crime prevention advice from the new MPD First District Commander Daniel Hickson.

One of the most common types of theft is theft of valuables from your automobile. Theft from auto is primarily a crime of opportunity that can often be prevented if you take away the opportunity. Thieves generally won’t waste their time breaking into autos that don’t have valuables in plain sight. Of course there are those, including one of our 1D serial thieves, who will break into every car on a block when they hit.

The best way to prevent theft from your auto is to always keep valuables “outta sight.” Never leave cell phones, briefcases, suitcases, or small electronic devices (personal music devices, digital assistants, etc.) in your car in plain view. Take theses items with you, or secure them — all the time, every time!
A valuable that is targeted by thieves is GPS systems. Remember to not only remove the GPS when you park, but also remove the mounting system, i.e. suction cup holder. Thieves will assume that the GPS is in the glove box when they see an empty mounting device.
If your car has a trunk, use it. Put valuables in there or in a locked glove compartment. Hiding items under seats is better than leaving them in plain view, but securing them inside the glove compartment or trunk is a far better deterrent.
While having nothing of value in your car will deter break-ins, you may also want to leave your empty glove box or any other visible compartment open to show the thieves that there is nothing to steal.
During the holiday season especially, or any time you’re shopping, place packages in the trunk, not on the passenger seats or floors.
Look for car radios or other sound systems that can operate only in the vehicle it was originally installed in. This reduces the risk of theft.
If you can unfasten your sound system and take it with you, or lock it in your trunk, do so. And don’t forget to do the same with your CDs and tapes.
Also, keep your car doors and windows locked — all the time!
Report suspicious activity while it is happening. This could save you or your neighbor from being victimized. Call 9-1-1 and stay on the line if you see or hear something that seems unusual or suspicious. Try to get a description of the suspects and their vehicle, and do not confront suspects. Don’t think you are bothering the police by calling them to report suspicious activity. It’s their job to detect and apprehend criminals, and they need your help because they can’t be in everyone’s neighborhood 24 hours a day.

The easiest tip of all is to LOCK your car. There are several known serial thieves who operate in First District and whom we have arrested multiple times. One of these individuals only commits thefts from unlocked cars; it is amazing how many he finds not secured. Recently my wife and I were driving in our neighborhood in the city when we observed two subjects committing thefts from autos and I was able to call on-duty units to assist me stop and arrest the suspects. These two were only stealing from unlocked cars and when they were arrested, they had about 10 GPS systems in their backpack.

Street crime prevention tips from MPD First District Commander

Some good advice went out to MPD's 1D listserve earlier today.

This week I would like to take the opportunity to provide some crime prevention tips to the First District Community. I’m sure that many of you are aware that at this particular time of year we often see a spike in some categories of crimes so this would be a good time to review different prevention tips.

When police managers look at crime prevention we consider the “prevention triangle”: the Offender, the Location and the Victim. The prevention tips that we will provide in this series focuses on what individuals can do to make themselves less vulnerable to being a victim. I compiled these tips through my own experience and training, as well as contributions from co-workers. All of the 1D PSA Lieutenant contributed to this compilation of tips and ideas; I also hope that you feel free to discuss these with the officer and sergeants who work in your community. Each day will focus on a different crime and for the first day we will focus on Robberies.

Robbery Prevention

Always be aware of your surroundings, vigilant of activity around you and attentive to individuals approaching
Walk purposely and with confidence, avoid starring at the ground so that you can be aware, vigilant and attentive
Do not allow yourself to be distracted by activity such as talking on your cell phone, listening to music or reading
Try to travel with others, walk in well-traveled areas, and at night in well-lighted areas
Protect your electronics by not displaying them

Resist the urge to multi-task while walking; wait to make phone calls, check your email and listen to music at your destination
Purchase black or dark colored ear buds
If you must listen to a device with ear buds, consider running the bud wires underneath your outer clothing to minimize visibility of the device
If you purchase an electronic device check to see if there is a tracking system available for the device

Do not use ATMs that are located in remote areas, try to use ATMs during the daylight hours in well populated areas
Do not display large amounts of cash when paying for items in public, and do not display excessive jewelry
Men: if you carry wallet, place the wallet in your front hip pocket or inside jacket pocket- do not carry in your back pant pocket
Women: when you will be walking in public spaces carry a small handbag or purse that you can grasp with a hand.

Of all the tips presented above the number one step that citizens can take to help prevent robberies is to not use your smart phone and/or I-pods while walking on a public street. The use of these devices distracts you from paying full attention to your surroundings and it advertises to suspects that you have something of value that can easily be snatched.

While no one can tell you what to do when confronted by a robber- we strongly recommend that you comply with the robber’s demands for property, particularly if they are armed with a weapon or if you feel threatened. Property can always be replaced.

Theatre Alliance hosts Black Nativity @ H St Playhouse; Pay what you can previews this wkd; Opens Monday

H Street Playhouse & Theater Alliance are currently in final rehearsals of the first show of their 9th Season, Langston Hughes’ Black Nativity, a vibrant retelling ofthe Christmas story filled with gospel music, storytelling, and dance.

Preview performances begin this weekend, and they will be Pay-What-You-Can at the door. However, they are selling advance tickets of $20 to these performances for groups who would like to ensure their seats. These "PWYC" performances will be at 8pm on Saturday, December 3, 4pm and 8pm on Sunday, December 4.

Black Nativity was one of thefirst shows written by an African-American to appear on Broadway, where itpremiered on December 11, 1961.

Only a couple weeks after Vice President Biden and a host of other prominent Washingtonians, including Colin Powell & Madeleine Albright dropped by the Atlas Performing Arts Center, H Street welcomed yet another prominent politico. This time First Lady Michelle Obama came to Sticky Rice for dinner on Friday evening. The First Lady arrived around 7 pm and stuck around for a couple hours while several suburbans and other secret service vehicles lined the north side of the 1200 block of H Street.

Conveniently Sticky Rice had recently opened their expansion into the building to their west, which allowed the additional space and exits that was likely required by Secret Service for a high profile guest like the First Lady. No word from the guys at Sticky Rice if any tots or PBRs were consumer alongside the First Lady's sushi.

We're thrilled to see the neighborhood continuing to attract more and more visitors, but hope her visit to Sticky Rice doesn't foretell long lines at Sticky Rice again so soon after they doubled in size. Although, the building next to the one they expanded into remains open...

413 H St sold for $550,000

The blighted vacant shell of a building at 413 H St (next door to Capital Fine Wine & Spirts near Sidamo and on the block bookended by The Big Board and Ethiopic) sold for $550,000 last week. The building's previous owner made a good bit of money by doing nothing with the property according to DC property records. The Office of Tax and Revenue shows the property was purchased in 2002 for $167,500, so the former owner appears to have taken nearly $400,000 by doing little more than paying the property taxes for the past several years. The building was added to DCRA's "blighted" property list earlier this year and thus subjected to the "blighted" tax rate of 10%. It was listed for sale soon thereafter for $650,000 in July.

We haven't spoken with the new owner, but are reliably informed that he plans to begin renovation of the building soon in anticipation of making it available for lease.

This is yet another sign of great progress on the western end of H Street over the past year. 413 H Street joins 5 other properties currently under renovation on the 400 block of H Street and is just east of the ongoing 360 H Street/Steuart Development mixed-use project which will house a Giant grocery store & a couple hundred residential units in 2013.

Belgium has long been known for producing strong, dark ales throughout the centuries. In recent years brewers all over the world have been been experimenting with Porters and Stouts brewed with traditional Belgian brewing ingredients to create new styles.

DC Brau and Stillwater Ales joined forces to create one of their own. "NATAS" is a Belgian Style Imperial Porter brewed with a traditional high gravity Abbey yeast. At first glance "NATAS" is pitch black in the glass with wafting aroma's of burnt sugar and caramelized fruit. The mouthfeel is silky smooth with hints of cocoa. It has a gentle, warming phenolic character that begs for a follow up inquiry. The hops are used to balance this brew and lend a subtle complexity. The dark lord himself would be proud to serve this hellish offering to his legions of demonic minions.

The beer name is a nod to Natas Kapuas, a skateboarder from Southern California in the late 80s and early 90s whose thrashing was super rad and adored by Brian, Jeff and Brandon while growing up. Natas is also Satan spelled backwards. Traditionally, there are many Belgian Strong Goldens and Tripels bearing the name of the Evil Spirit. Being that this beer is dark as midnight and therefore the opposite of this it is only appropriate that it should bear the name of the dark lord spelled BACKWARDS.

The Hillys were Sunday night on H Street at the Atlas. Julia Robey Christian of CHAMPS put on a terrific show and Aesthic Answers had the Atlas looking better than ever. Congratulations to Inspire BBQ, The Queen Vic, Little Miss Whiskeys, the Pug, and Toki Underground on winning Hillys or being runners up for them. The Hill is Home has the full awards run down.

Aldi opened at 17th & Maryland. Aldi is a German grocery company, something akin to a Costco food section or a low-priced, all generic Trader Joes. We swung through and were most impressed with the view of the Capitol from the checkout lines. Various pantry items were very inexpensive, but you wont find a wide array of produce or any organic items here. Note they accept debit, not credit and take a harder line on bringing your own bags than is required under DC law. The Washington Post checked out the ribbon cutting and somewhat confusingly cites the Aldi as opening in a "food desert." It is literally across the street from a Safeway.

Young & Hungry's Chris Shott has a nice piece on the Big Board and talks to the Brothers Flannery (co-owners Eric & Mark live along H Street & are usually managing at Big Board) about their secret burger marinade that they all got pieces of from their father Admiral Flannery. We haven't a clue what's in it, but we've been very pleased with the burgers we've had there thus far.

Sticky Rice tells us that their expansion into the building to their west is now open, so hopefully it'll be easier to get tables there now. They've also rolled out a new food truck called Chupacabra. The truck is based out of the building at the corner of 9th & H where they considered opening a Chupacabra restaurant. They sell a variety of tacos, both traditional styles and more creative offerings.

Wendell Kimbrough is a performing songwriter based in NE DC and is hosting an album release for his band featuring two artists who he describes as the most dynamic acts in the area as openers--Andy Zipf and Justin Trawick at the Atlas Performing Arts Center on H Street this Friday. He will be backed by a full band of New Orleans-style jazz players from DC and NYC , including renowned clarinetist Gary Gregg from Chaise Lounge. It is going to be a fantastic night of music in a beautiful setting, and a real showcase of some of the great talent in the DC area. We haven't seen Mr. Kimbrough perform before, but really enjoyed a few of his songs we found online, so we recommend checking him out.

Murry's property on 600 blk H Street sold for $10 Million to Insight Property Group

The H Street parcel that currently houses Murry's, Good Dannys, and another vacant storefront along the 600 block of H Street was sold for $10 Million to Insight Properties, LLC earlier this month. Insight's principals appear to be former Kettler executives. The property includes three parcels along H Street, 6th Street, and I Street and is expected to be redeveloped for mixed use. The property is across the street from another recently sold property that is expected to be redeveloped as well. It will be interesting and exciting to watch what is arguably H Street's least lively block currently be redeveloped into something more vibrant. The possibilities here are great and we look forward to following and reporting as the plans develop. Perhaps it's time to resurrect the petition to bring Whole Foods to the neighborhood?

Hill resident Lisa McCabe Hobbs has organized Destination Abricots, a donation drive to collect goods for children (mostly orphans) living in a small town in Haiti called Abricots. Destination Abricots will be at the H Street Farmers' market this Saturday, November 11. They're collecting the following goods for children of all ages:

Basic needs: clothes (summerand light Fall clothing only), shoes, underwear, rain gear, school bags, lunchboxes, toiletries etc., and Sunday clothes.

Educational needs: musical instruments, table games, art materials for drawing, embroidery etc.; early reader books, comic books, teacher's edition books, and English / French, and Spanish / French dictionaries.

Sporting equipment: soccer and basketballs, goal nets and basketball hoop rings, sporting gear for these games like jerseys, shoes and socks.

Uniforms: Was your child on a soccer or basketball team in recent years? Coordinate with other members of your child's team to see if they would be willing to donate old uniforms. We are looking for 11 - 15 matching boys' jerseys in sizes medium and large and 11 -15 matching girls' uniforms in sizes small and medium.

Can't make it Saturday or prefer to donate financially? They're also lining up monetary donations online through their beneficiary's website (CAPED in Abricots Haiti) where you can donate directly to CAPED (Center for Assistance to Poor Kids in Education and Development).

Eater had a couple great pieces on Toki Underground. The first is a terrific interview with Erik Yang. The second talks about his plans to offer Peking Duck over the holidays. We're looking forward to trying that soon.

The Hill is Home has a quick write up of an author's first trip to the Big Board. She seems happy. We've been a few times and have been very pleased as well. They seem to be drawing a very good neighborhood crowd and are making really good burgers to suit all styles. We also enjoyed the "tobacco onions," which are similar to onion straws that you might find at Matchbox or Liberty Tree. WAMU also has this nice piece on them.

Frozen Tropics reports that the Pug is hosting a Whiskey tasting tonight at 8. $10 to sample 4 types of scotch.

The Reliable Source reports that a slew of DC celebrities including Vice President Biden, Michael Douglas, Alan Greenspan, Colin Powell, Madeleine Albright, Dick Gregory, and Bob Johnson came to H Street to see Anne & Emmet at the Atlas (1333 H St). They play offers "look at the past through the lives of two teenage martyrs, Anne Frank and Emmett Till" and was written by Janet Langhart Cohen whose husband William Cohen represented Maine in the Senate and later served as Secretary of Defense. We're sorry we missed it -- it's another reminder that there are lots of great things happening at the Atlas and we're lucky to have it here.

Greater Greater Washington reports that another biker got their tires stuck in the streetcar tracks on H Street and asks whether bike lanes are needed here. We don't see where they could happen on H Street, but like the suggestion that others have made that they be added to G St and I St and think some bike friendly adjustments should be part of the pedestrian safety improvements slated for Maryland Ave as well.

Washingtonian's Best Bites Blog says Tasty Kabob was looking for a storefront on H Street. We'd love to see something pop up in the Philadelphia Water Ice space again this winter.

On November 13, CHAMPS - Capitol Hill's Chamber of Commerce presents its third annual Hilly Awards, recognizing outstanding local businesses in 15 different categories, including Restaurant of the Year, Nonprofit of the Year, and Retailer of the Year. Twelve of the award winners were determined by the greater Capitol Hill community and three of the awards determined by the CHAMPS Board of Directors. In August and September, the local community cast over 2100 nominations with the five businesses with the most nominations in each category appearing on the ballot. For the month of October, the community voted on their favorite of those five nominees and after nearly 6000 votes cast, the winners will be revealed at an all-out awards production and gala, a la the Academy Awards. The grand awards production begins at 7:15pm in the Lang Theatre at the Atlas Performing Arts Center, with a special Celebration following in the Atlas' Sprenger Theatre. Ward 6 Councilmember Tommy Wells will present the Best New Business Award and DC Council Chair Kwame Brown will kick off the Celebration portion of the evening. In addition to featuring local restaurants, this year's Hilly Awards will include a live election to determine who will take home the Hilly Award for Bartender of the Year. Last week, 17 restaurants and bars nominated one of their bartenders to compete in the finals and after a public vote, the four finalists have been chosen to tend bar at the Hilly Awards and compete for the ultimate title. The Celebration will feature a four-sided bar where event guests will be invited to cast their vote by dropping a special voting chip into the canister belonging to the bartender of his/her choice. At 9:45pm, the canisters will be collected, votes tallied, with the winner announced and Hilly Award presented at 10pm. The Hilly Awards finish up at 11pm, when guests are invited to head next door to the H Street Country Club (1335 H Street, NE) for the official Hilly Awards after party. Games will be up and running and the mini golf course will be open specially for this event.

Chupacabra is the latest food truck on the scene bringing traditional and no-so-traditional tacos to you beginning on Monday. Chupacabra comes from the guys behind Sticky Rice, so expect creative takes on tacos to be a big part of the menu, including a Thanksgiving Taco (roasted turkey, stuffing, etc.) this month.
Chupacabra had been looking to open a small H Street outpost near 9th & H, but it's not clear at this point if the tacos will be available there or just via the truck for now.

“Amalgamations” by Steven Pearson

We are all subject to a flood of information on a daily, if not hourly, basis via a variety of technological means- emails, text messages, Facebook, Twitter, online newspapers, countless websites, as well as television and radio. With such a wide array of information from so many sources, one is obligated to discern what is true, verifiable, and good; and what is false, speculative, inflammatory, and bad.

Steven Pearson is interested in how our ability to receive and assimilate a myriad of information on a constant basis can be reflected in a 2-dimensional format. In his paintings, he employs complex compositions and an autobiographical visual language consisting of codes and symbols. Each painting possesses a layered history- as new statements are juxtaposed next to or on top of earlier ones, the paintings begin to suggest the manner in which we store memories or assimilate and make sense of information. Some shapes are strong and vivid, while others become broken and incoherent, only suggested by the pentimenti left as a visual reminder of their previous existence.

Each of the larger paintings in Amalgamations is created from tracings of earlier paintings. Pearson traces their compositions in random areas, and pieces it back together in a new arrangement. After each painting is completed, he repeats that process, tracing the newest completed painting to compose the next. With each painting the original source is broken down and altered, eventually becoming unidentifiable. The breakdown and reorganizaton of that original composition from painting to painting is a representation, or metaphor, for information sharing and social networking.

About Steven Pearson

Steven Pearson is a Painter and an Associate Professor in the Art & Art History Department at McDaniel College in Westminster, MD where he has been teaching various art courses since 2004. He is also the Director of the college’s Rice Gallery.

Steven was born in Johnstown, NY. He received his Bachelor of Science in Studio Art from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY, and his Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the Hoffberger School of Painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD.

Steven has exhibited both nationally and regionally and has been an Artist in Residence at the Vermont Studio Center in 2010, 2006, 2003, as well as the Ragdale Foundation in 2005. He has received several grants, including an Individual Artist Grant from the Maryland State Arts Council (2010), Artists Grants from the Vermont Studio Center (2010, 2006, 2003), and Faculty Development Grants from McDaniel College (2009, 2008, 2005).

Steven’s work can be found in several public and private collections including: Schenectady Museum, University of Mary Washington, Siena College, College of Saint Rose, Fulton-Montgomery Community College, Prologue Inc., FTI Consulting, Hilton Baltimore Convention Center Hotel, The League For People With Disabilities, Baltimore, MD.

Steven currently lives in Westminster, MD, and works in his studios on Campus at McDaniel College, and at the Area 405 Building in Baltimore.

Boundary Road- American bistro restaurant coming to 414 H St this winter

Boundary Road a rustic American bistro will be the next new restaurant to open on H Street, likely some time this winter at 414 H Street. Boundary Road comes to us from co-owners Karlos Leopold and Chef Brad Walker both veterans of some of DC's best restaurants and bars, including a few of our favorite non-neighborhood spots: Meridian Pint, Central, and Proof.

The restaurant is designed to have a comfortable atmosphere with a menu that balances creativity with local staples. It will have a substantial neighborhood bar area with an eclectic beverage program, highlighting craft beers and old world wines, and a custom made from reclaimed wood communal harvest table. They hope to be a neighborhood gathering place where local residents come for a comfortable place to unwind after work, a meeting spot for a group of friends to celebrate their birthday, or a Sunday brunch spot to catch up with family and friends. High-quality affordable food prepared from fresh local ingredients is at the heart of the menu, which features regional favorites and other creative cuisine, as well as an impressive beer list and eclectic wine program.

Boundary Road is still in the midst of their buildout, but we're confident it's going to add nicely to H Street's growing dining scene and will be another welcome addition to the western end of the corridor.

Housing Complex's Lydia DePillis breaks the news that the Ali family, owners of Ben's Chili Bowl & Ben's Next Door succeded in their quest to purchase 1001 H Street from George Parker, the long time owner of George's Place. Mr. Parker is retiring with a $900,000 check for the double wide building on the SE corner of 10th & H.

Another H Street property changed hands this month too. 1351 H Street was purchased for $825,000 by WestMill Capital, run by Ben and Dan Miller. WestMill Capital is the new owner of the large plot that currently houses AutoZone and a surface parking lot and has plans to invest in several smaller projects along the corridor. DePillis previously reported that this property would be put to a restaurant use of some sort with a farm-to-table concept, a Red Rocks pizzeria, or a Bon Chon South Korean chicken style venue all considered possibilities. We'd welcome any of the three. The building is one of the last ones in a well-used stretch of H Street that is full of restaurants which is bookended the Atlas Performing Arts Center and SOVA and is located immediately in between Rock n Roll Hotel and Star and Shamrock.

The Sherwood Neighborhood Volunteers are holding their fall work day on Saturday, from 10 am - 1 pm. Join your neighbors and help continue the beautification work of the past year at the Sherwood Recreation Center (640 10th St NE).

The work session includes planting bulbs, mulching the new flower beds, and doing other fall cleanup activity. As an added incentive, there will be Sidamo coffee and breakfast treats to enjoy.

The Washington Post released Tom Sietsema's Fall Dining Guide. Ethiopic was featured for the second year in a row and the Atlas Room was added to the guide, which lists the top 40 restaurants in Washington where Sietsema wishes he could be a regular. The Atlas Room was also upgraded to 2.5 stars in the guide. Congratulations to Sam, Meseret, Matt, Bobby, and Mark on the well-deserved recognition!

Toki Underground hosted Baohaus from NYC for a bao pop up. We were sorry to miss it, but TPWP was there along with tons of others and it sounded delicious.

DCist notes that the Atlas Performing Arts Center celebrated being added to the National Register of Historic Places recently. We hope it's the first of many such designations on H Street over the coming years.

The Washington Post has this write up on "After The Quake," which is being performed at the Atlas Performing Arts Center.

DC Style Is Real's Joel Church enjoyed his first trip the Big Board (421 H St). DC Style is Real also reports on a cool photography exhibit at SOVA (1359 H St) with a photographer even on October 25.

The Post also previewed two more plays that recently opened on H Street. “Can't Scare Me: The Story of Mother Jones” runs through Oct. 30 at Atlas Performing Arts Center’s Sprenger Theatre and "Greek" runs through Nov. 27 at the H Street Playhouse.

Urban Daddy has details on an upcoming Haloween Ode to Offal Dinner at the Queen Vic (1206 H St) on Sunday, October 30. Haven't booked seats yet, but I want in!

The Post's Jonathan O'Connell (@OConnellPostBiz) reported on the development plans for the south side of the 600 block of H Street. Lydia DePillis reported previously that there were new owners who dropped over $50 million for the site and that they had access to capital. It seems she's right and that they plan to fill in the gap between the two larger buildings closer to the corners of 6th & 7th Streets with groundbreaking on the new residential building with ground floor retail some time next year. Relevant to neighbors, this appears to mean that they do not require neighborhood sign off on their plans as the property was previously reviewed by the local ANCs and approved for this kind of development.

Also of note, this will require a new home for the H Street FreshFarm Farmers' Market. We've heard Sherwood Recreation Center (10th & G) suggested as a possibility. We're not sure of where else might work, but agree that the neighborhood needs to make sure to find a spot for it to continue without disruption.

I. Welcome/Purpose of Meeting

This is the second in a series of three special meeting to discuss the possible need for a cap on alcohol licenses on H Street NE. The first meeting last month was designed to educate the community about the cap process and the pros/cons of such a cap. This meeting is will focus on community reaction to the possible need for a cap on H St NE.

II. Review of Informational Meeting

The Committee will give a brief recap of the first informational meeting and talk about potential options the ANC could consider.

III. Community Comment

Given the expected high level of interest in this meeting, we will ask that public comments be limited to two to three minutes each in an effort to give everyone a fair opportunity to provide their input. Once everyone has been given an opportunity to speak once, we will recognize individuals for a second round of comments if time permits. Please keep comments focused on the larger question of a possible cap--not complaints about a specific establishment.
